Hot chocolate is usually a high-sugar beverage–not something we want to be putting in our bodies regularly. I learned to make a healthy hot chocolate that I absolutely love. It satisfies my sweet tooth-induced chocolate craving, but I know I’m giving my body some good food! Here’s how I do it:
Healthy Hot Chocolate
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 heaping tablespoon raw cacao powder
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 tablespoon coconut oil
pinch of cayenne pepper
honey to taste
Heat the water, then put all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth and enjoy!
Obviously, you can use any type of milk, or all milk and no water, or all water and no milk if you want to cut the calories a little more. I just love coconut milk, so it’s always my #1 choice.
Don’t be afraid of the turmeric! It doesn’t markedly change the taste of the drink, but it has so many great health benefits. Sometimes I’ll also add ginger or cloves. I love the gentle bite of the cayenne, but you could leave that out. Play with it until you find your favorite flavor combination!
