Do you lie in bed for a few minutes after you wake up and before you get up? Then you have time to do yoga.
These gentle yoga poses are a great way to start your day, and you can do them all while lying comfortably in your bed.
Breathing Hands to Lap and Overhead
Put your feet together and let your knees fall to each side. Fold your hands and place them in your lap.
As you inhale, reach your arms over your head, timing your breath to match your movement. As you exhale, bring them back to your lap. Repeat 10 times, or as many times as you’d like!
Gentle Twist
Bend your knees and place your feet on the bed about shoulder-width apart. Keeping the feet where they are, gently lower your knees to one side…
Single Knee to Chest
Start with both legs flat on the bed. As you exhale, bring one knee toward your chest and, holding the hamstring, hug it as close to your shoulder as it will go. Inhale as you place the leg back on the bed. Repeat on the other side. Breathe deeply.
Double Knees to Chest
Tuck both knees toward your chest and gently rock from side to side.
Supported Shoulder Stand
With your feet on the bed, lift your hips up to make enough room to place one or two pillows under your sacrum. Lift one leg at a time so they are up over your hips. Rest and breathe in that position for as long as it’s comfortable.
Starting your day with a little focused movement is good for your mind and your body, and it starts your healthy day off on the right foot. Try this little routine before you get up tomorrow and let me know how you feel!
